The science of penile growth, from flaccid to erect.
A grower's penis increases by four centimetres or more from flaccid to erect; a shower increases by less. In the largest study to publish the split, the population divides 26 / 74. Anatomy, not climate, is what decides which group you fall into.
The threshold is four centimetres of flaccid-to-erect length change.
Yafi et al. 2018, International Journal of Impotence Research. Definitions adopted across the subsequent clinical literature.
Most men are showers, by a wide margin.
Yafi et al. 2018, n = 274. Subsequent replication across populations gives the same direction of effect.
The pattern is consistent across cohorts.

Tissue mechanics, not climate or ethnicity.
Yafi et al. 2018 identified five anatomical variables that predict whether a man is a grower or a shower: tunica-albuginea thickness (0.9 mm in growers vs 1.2 mm in showers), elastic-fibre content (~5% elastin), smooth-muscle composition, vascular capacity (25–60× blood-flow increase during erection), and collagen-type-I content at 95.5%.
Younger men are more likely to be growers (mean age 47.5 vs 55.9 years, p < 0.001). The flaccid-to-erect mechanism appears to lose elasticity with age while measured erect length does not.
Cold reduces flaccid size by up to 50%, in everyone.
Cold triggers vasoconstriction through the sympathetic nervous system — a heat-conservation response that can reduce flaccid size by up to half. The effect is reversible within minutes of warming. It is a protective response, not a measurement of underlying anatomy.
There is no scientific evidence for climate-based ethnic differences in grower / shower distribution. Yafi 2018 found no racial differences. Temperature affects temporary flaccid size in all populations equally; the "warm climates produce showers, cold climates produce growers" claim is cultural, not medical.
Flaccid size predicts almost nothing about erect size.
If you are a shower, your flaccid measurement is close to your erect one and the change feels small. If you are a grower, the change is dramatic. Neither tells you anything useful about where you fall in the erect-length distribution that the calculator uses. The maths is the same maths; what matters is the erect measurement.
